چکیده
The conditions inside next-generation nuclear reactors are likely to be extreme. High-performance materials will required, and there is still great scope for developing new improved alloys. High-entropy alloys (HEAs) potential candidates, it that such need based around low-activation elements tend form body-centred cubic structures. Whilst have been a number of investigations assessing the capability CALPHAD databases predict phases formed in face-centred HEAs, their applicability less studied systems not well known. Here, two HEAs produced; TiVCrMnFe Si0.1TiVCr0.5Fe, microstructures assessed compared predictions. both comprised C14 Laves phase B2 following casting, BCC solid solution (A2) holding at 1200 °C, with high proportions constituent found each case. It was experimentally were quaternary intermetallics Fe, V, Cr Ti, V disordered across Fe site. These observations predictions made using four databases. accuracy varied markedly between underpredicted, often severely, by did account quinary nature phase. Removing Ti from resulted an equiatomic VCrMnFe alloy single °C.

Multicomponent and High Entropy Alloys
This paper describes some underlying principles of multicomponent and high entropy alloys, and gives some examples of these materials. Different types of multicomponent alloy and different methods of accessing multicomponent phase space are discussed. The alloys were manufactured by conventional and high speed solidification techniques, and their macroscopic, microscopic and nanoscale structure...
متن کاملSuperior hydrogen storage in high entropy alloys
Metal hydrides (MHx) provide a promising solution for the requirement to store large amounts of hydrogen in a future hydrogen-based energy system. This requires the design of alloys which allow for a very high H/M ratio. Transition metal hydrides typically have a maximum H/M ratio of 2 and higher ratios can only be obtained in alloys based on rare-earth elements. In this study we demonstrate, f...
متن کاملDesign of Light-Weight High-Entropy Alloys
High-entropy alloys (HEAs) are a new class of solid-solution alloys that have attracted worldwide attention for their outstanding properties. Owing to the demand from transportation and defense industries, light-weight HEAs have also garnered widespread interest from scientists for use as potential structural materials. Great efforts have been made to study the phase-formation rules of HEAs to ...
